　　教宗方濟各述說，「談判絕不是投降，而是避免讓國家走向自殺之路的勇氣。人們可能會為投降感到羞恥，但戰爭將造成多少人喪生？應該及時展開談判，找一個可以充當調解人的國家」。
　　法新社日前報導，教宗方濟各今年二月初接受瑞士公共廣播公司RSI專訪時表示：「我相信最堅強的是那些能看清局勢、為人民著想，勇敢舉起白旗並進行談判的人」。
　　針對教宗此番言論，烏克蘭方面則回絕其善意。總統澤倫斯基表示，教宗正在進行「虛擬調解」；外長庫列巴也回應道：「我們的國旗是黃藍相間的。這是我們生存、死亡和勝利的旗幟。我們永遠不會升起任何其他旗幟」。
　　雙方的主張差異，在於教宗心繫人民，相較於戰爭的輸贏，更重視人民的生命安危，因而建議烏克蘭與俄羅斯進行談判，以停止戰爭、重歸和平。而烏克蘭則選擇堅守原則，展現了堅定的精神及勇氣。然而烏俄兩方實力上的差距卻是不爭的事實，若沒有西方國家的軍援，烏克蘭將難以支撐戰局，但同時，西方國家也不會將烏克蘭的存亡置於自己國家利益之上。
　　對此，筆者提出「識時務者為俊傑」，認為拒絕談判、繼續奮戰，將有損人民的福祉，使人民生活於水深火熱中。回顧歷史上的戰爭，多半是以談判收場，因此筆者呼籲各國的領導者，應引以為戒。而對於俄烏戰爭的未來發展，則仍有待觀察。

Pope Francis said, “Negotiation is never surrender, but courage to avoid putting the country on the path of suicide.” People may be ashamed to surrender, but how many lives will war kill? Negotiation should start in time to find a country that can act as a mediator."
Pope Francis said in an interview with Swiss public broadcaster RSI in early February this year: "I believe the strongest are those who can see the situation clearly, think of the people, bravely raise the white flag and negotiate".
In response to the pope's remarks, the Ukrainian side rejected his goodwill. President Zelensky said the pope is in "virtual mediation" and Foreign Minister Kuleba responded: "Our flag is yellow and blue." This is our banner of survival, death and victory. We will never raise any other flag."
The difference between the two sides is that the pope cares for the people and places more importance on the lives of the people than on the win or lose of the war, and therefore recommends that Ukraine negotiate with Russia to stop the war and return to peace. Ukraine, on the other hand, chose to stand by principles and showed firm spirit and courage. However, the difference in strength between Ukraine and Russia is an indisputable fact. Without the military assistance of Western countries, Ukraine will not be able to support the war situation, but at the same time, Western countries will not put Ukraine's survival above their own national interests.
In this regard, the author proposed that "knowing the affairs of the time is a Junjie", believing that refusing to negotiate and continuing to fight will harm the well-being of the people and make the people live in deep water. Looking back at wars in history, most of them ended in negotiations, so this author appeals to national leaders to take a warning.
