首位女性夏威夷原民的美國將軍、美國夏威夷州智庫「東西中心」(East-West Center, EWC) 主任Suzanne Vares-Lum上週蒞臨協會並拜會林永樂會長。
Vares-Lum伉儷本次來台出席與外交部合作的太平洋島國青年培訓計畫(PILP)10週年結業式，也藉此機會參訪相關民間機構，就台灣國際局勢交換意見。
PILP恰巧是林會長於2013年外交部長任內創設的雙邊合作項目，林會長與Vares-Lum主任咸認此類促進區域人員交流的工作，應該由公私單位協力推動，以創造更大效益。

Suzanne Vares-Lum, the first female Native Hawaiian general and director of the East-West Center ( East-West Center East-West Center EWC), a Hawaii think tank, visited the association last week and met with President Lin Yongle.
Vares-Lum 伉儷 came to Taiwan to attend the 10th anniversary of the Pacific Island Youth Training Program (PILP) in cooperation with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and also took the opportunity to visit relevant private institutions to exchange views on the international situation in Taiwan.
PILP happens to be a bilateral cooperation project created by President Lin during his term as Foreign Minister in 2013, and President Lin and Director Vares-Lum agree that such efforts to promote regional personnel exchanges should be promoted by public and private actors to create greater benefits.
