本會理事、淡江大學國際事務與戰略研究所黃介正教授於聯合報名人堂的專欄文章〈「親台」是檢驗美中的唯一標準〉
......在「親美」與「親中」之間做「一邊倒」的選擇，對於一部分國人同胞或許不難，即使明知各有利害，卻也喜愛如此簡單的邏輯。然而在此之前，或容許我們思考美國與中國大陸是否「親台」：政府友台、政策利台、人民親台。
「安全、繁榮、尊嚴」一直是國人同胞努力追求的國家目標，三者同步達到可望之境，何止艱難。然而每四年一次的總統大選，則是選民依當時的國家處境與首要關切，將三者重新排列優先順序的時機。我們不能預測下屆總統投票時，人民會如何抉擇，但有十三個月可以共同認真以「安全、繁榮、尊嚴」來思考檢證：美國與中國大陸如何實踐「親台」。
中華民國之孤懸於世久矣，以目前之弱之小，當有自知者明，在思考國家安全政策之時，絕不能妄自托大而誤存幻想，體會美中當前僵持對峙形勢，兩強難予弱者戰略行動自由之現實，即便如萬鈞之重，仍應在台美關係與兩岸關係之間，力持均衡，以階段性、重點性、機動性，以求「尊嚴、安全、繁榮」綜合之最，或至少勉力追求：「美國政府友台、大陸人民親台、雙方政策利台」。
英國前首相帕默斯頓有云：無恆久之盟，無永遠之敵。不搞「一邊倒」旨在拒絕弱智，不在「親美」與「親中」之間做選擇，不是畏縮無勇，而是保存「民有民治民享之民主共和國」的大仁大義。

Making the "one-sided" choice between "pro-American" and "pro-China" may not be difficult for some compatriots, even if they know that they have benefits, they love such a simple logic. Before that, however, let us think about whether the United States and mainland China are "pro-Taiwan": government friends, policies, and people pro-Taiwan.
"Safety, prosperity, and dignity" has always been the national goal pursued by our compatriots, and the three have achieved the desired situation at the same time, not only the difficulties. Yet the President general election every four years is a time for voters to re-priority the three based on national circumstances and priorities at the time. We can't predict what people will choose when they vote on President but 13 months can be together to think seriously about "safety, prosperity, dignity": how the US and mainland China are doing pro-Taiwan.
Republic of China The loneliness of the world has been long ago. With the current weakness, people who know themselves know that when thinking about national security policies, they must never assume the illusion of being big and thinking about the current standoff between the US and China, and the reality that the two strong have given the weak freedom of strategic action. Even if it is so important, they should still maintain a balance between Taiwan-US relations and cross-strait relations, with stages, focus, and mobility, in order to achieve "dignity, security, and prosperity", or at least strive to pursue it: "The US government friends Taiwan, the mainland people are pro-Taiwan, and the policies of both sides".
Former British Prime Minister Palmerston has a cloud: no lasting alliance, no eternal enemy. Not to engage in "one-sided" is to reject the mentally retarded, not to choose between "pro-American" and "pro-China", not to shrink back and bravery, but to preserve the great righteousness of "a democratic republic where the people are enjoyed by the people".
