對外關係協會秘書長、政大外交系副教授黃奎博接受中央社訪問時指出，習近平這次談話主要想傳達的政治訊息是「求同存異、相互尊重」。就習近平說「要尊重彼此對發展道路和社會制度的選擇」，黃奎博分析，確實有針對總統在國慶演說中支持港人爭取民主和呼籲大陸走向民主憲政的味道。
但他認為，每當台灣強調面對現實、求同存異時，陸方往往也回應希望台灣同樣理解大陸內部因素，因此「求同存異、相互尊重」是習近平這次最主要的政治訊息。就習近平要兩岸「堅定信心、增進互信、相互尊重、良性互動」的16字主張，黃奎博指出，「在主張中愈強調的，就是愈缺乏的」，習近平不止對台信心喊話，更希望兩岸不受反「中」運動影響，繼續依照兩岸協商的架構強化交流。
他認為，蕭萬長提出的3個不變，更是馬政府對陸方的「再保證」，保證和平處理兩岸關係，保證不拋棄「九二共識」，保證無論國內反對勢力如何挑戰公權力，繼續依照海峽兩岸經濟合作架構協議（ECFA）推動經貿合作進程。
