[Central News Agency/Washington 7th Special] Director of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Research Association, Ji Wen Ji, and Secretary-General of the Association for Foreign Relations of the Society, Huang Kuibo, visited Washington Times on the 5th and gave an interview. On the proposal to expand Taiwan's long-range early warning radar system and incorporate the US anti-missile system, Huang Kuibo said the US is concerned that China's long-range missiles are targeted face-to-face at the 115-mile-wide Taiwan Strait, Taiwan needs US assistance to defend against external threats including mainland China, and continued U.S. support for Taiwan is vital. The U.S. continues to sell early warning radars to Taiwan, but Taiwan needs visible equipment, such as F-22, F-35 fighters or submarines, to maintain its defense capabilities. Although Taiwan does not officially appear in the U.S. executive branch's Asia rebalancing policy, Taiwan is no less important than U.S. allies Japan and South Korea.
