Taiwan Presents Itself As A TPP Candidate
A high-powered delegation from Taiwan is presently in New York to explain why the island republic considers it important to join the TPP, which was also raised by US President Barack Obama in his talks with Malaysian Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak during the former's recent visit to Malaysia.

Dr. Huang ... pointed out that people-to-people contacts between Taiwan and the mainland had intensified, with a large number of tourists and students from China visiting Taiwan and studying at Taiwan universities.
Huang spoke of a "rare experiment" carried out between the much bigger and stronger communist China and a weaker but democratic Taiwan. The triangle base on which Taiwan's relations with the mainland rest includes diplomacy, politics and economics.
But Huang, admitting that Taiwan's "overdependence" on China was being criticised internally in Taiwan, said the republic is trying to diversify its trade and investments with other countries.
