區域衝突頻傳 馬哈迪籲和平解決

東南亞不平靜，區域紛擾四起。馬來西亞前總理馬哈迪今天說，外交政策秘訣無他，就是「要和每個人都做朋友」。
馬哈迪今天應對外關係協會邀請，以「國家建構【編按：民族國家的建構】與經濟發展－馬來西亞經驗」為題發表專題演講，與會者向他提問，未來兩岸關係最佳相處之道，他笑而未答，轉而以馬國外交政策回覆。
談起馬國外交政策，馬哈迪只以一句話總結，「和大家都當朋友」，不因地域、意識型態差異而有所區分，他說，馬國是多族裔社會，已習慣和「多元」共處。
不過，馬哈迪也不諱言，「鄰居之間難免會吵架」，他說，馬國和印尼、新加坡都曾發生島嶼主權糾紛，和泰國間則是天然氣開發，橫跨兩國國界，三起糾紛最後都透過和平協商或交由國際法院定奪，最終都和平落幕。
馬哈迪說，戰爭不論是贏家或輸家，都得付出高額代價，馬國並不樂見，所以，和印尼間的糾紛，即使最後印尼勝訴，「我們也平心接受」；泰國的例子，雙方也做出共同開採天然氣的決議，兩國雙贏，而不是兩敗俱傷。
另外，馬哈迪也呼籲，東、西方國家最大差別是，西方國家能揮別歷史傷痛，共同合作往前進，如：德國和法國、英國，反觀東亞國家卻忘不了過去，形同虛耗，阻礙更多合作可能。

Southeast Asia is not calm, the region is troubled. Former Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir said today that the secret of foreign policy is to “make friends with everyone”.
Mahathir today responded to the invitation of the Foreign Relations Association to deliver a keynote speech on the topic of "National Construction [Editor's Note: National State Construction] and Economic Development - Malaysian Experience". The participants asked him questions about the best way to get along with cross-Strait relations in the future. He laughed and did not answer, instead responding to Malaysia's foreign policy.
Speaking of Malaysia's foreign policy, Mahathir summed up with only one sentence, "Be friends with everyone", without distinction based on geography or ideology, he said Malaysia is a multi-ethnic society and has become accustomed to living with "pluralism".
However, Mahathir did not say that "neighbors will inevitably quarrel", he said that Malaysia and Indonesia and Singapore had disputes over island sovereignty, and Thailand had natural gas development, across the border between the two countries, and all three disputes ended peacefully through peaceful negotiations or handed over to the International Court of Justice.
Mahathir said that the war is a winner or a loser, and Malaysia is not happy to see it, so the dispute with Indonesia, even if Indonesia wins, "we accept it with peace"; Thailand's example, the two sides also made a decision to jointly exploit natural gas. The two countries win, not lose.
In addition, Mahathir also called for the biggest difference between East and West countries is that Western countries can shake the pain of history and work together to move forward, such as: Germany, France, Britain, but East Asian countries can't forget the past, which is a waste, hindering more cooperation possibilities.
