關於兩岸關係的未來發展，馬來西亞前首相馬哈迪(Mahathir bin Mohamad)今天(26日)在台北表示，馬來西亞處理與鄰國的爭端時，最好方法是和平解決，戰爭則是最壞手段，因為它不僅代價太大，也沒有任何贏家。
曾擔任馬來西亞首相超過22年的馬哈迪首次來台訪問，26日應對外關係協會邀請，在台北以「民族建構【編按：民族國家的建構】與經濟發展：馬來西亞之經驗」為題進行演講，詳細介紹馬來西亞致力融合不同種族的過程與思維，並認為「分享」是最重要的政策主軸；此外，馬哈迪還說明馬國的經濟發展現況，並很有信心地表示，馬來西亞將在2020年前成為已開發國家。
