「美國前共和黨參議員、傳統基金會會長狄敏特（Jim DeMint）12日肯定，台灣政府針對群眾激情佔領行政機構，能堅守民主價值，居中協調處理；他也指出，雖然對岸中國不斷刻意越線試探，對東亞民主政治及自由形成大威脅，但他強調，美國政府不分黨派都會力守「台灣關係法」，並表示台灣是美國重要盟友。
美國傳統基金會會長狄敏特曾任美國共和黨眾議員與參議員，12日以「保存亞洲自由的希望」 為題演講，表示台美國內政治、日韓盟國之間衝突、以及中國的崛起，都會影響美國與亞太盟國的關係。但是他重申，美國國會不管是保守或民主，都支持台灣維持既有的民主自由，與台灣維持盟友關係，提供適度援助；並全力支持自由貿易政策推行。 」
