Ambassador Andrew Li-yan Hsia, Chairman of the Association of Foreign Relations, will be moderating a panel as part of a series of talks on "where the U.S. democracy is leading?" organized by the Fair Winds Foundation on August 19, 2018. Speaker, Moderator, and Panelist Bios
Dr. Larry Diamond is a senior fellow at the Hoover Institution and at the Freeman Spogli Institute for International Studies (FSI). A world-renowned scholar in democracy studies, he specializes in comparative democratic development and US foreign policy. For more than six years, he directed FSI’s Center on Democracy, Development, and the Rule of Law, and he continues to lead its programs on Arab Reform and Democracy and Democracy in Taiwan. He is the founding co-editor of the Journal of Democracy and also serves as Senior Consultant at the International Forum for Democratic Studies of the National Endowment for Democracy.
Ambassador Andrew Li-yan HSIA is the chairman of the Association of Foreign Relations and the vice president of Phu My Hung Asia Holdings Corporation. Previously, he was R.O.C (Taiwan) Executive Yuan’s Minister of Mainland Affairs Council and R.O.C Deputy National Defense Minister, and led a distinguished diplomatic career as R.O.C. Deputy Foreign Minister, R.O.C. Representative to Indonesia and India, and Director General of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in New York. He obtained his master’s degrees in diplomacy from National Chengchi University and in law from Oxford University, United Kingdom.
Ambassador Lyu-shun SHEN was former R.O.C representative to the United States, United Kingdom, the European Union and Belgium. Previously, he served as Director-General of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Geneva and chiefs in the Congressional Liaison division and the Political Division of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Representative Office in Washington, D.C. He obtained his PhD in International Relations from the University of Pennsylvania.
